I recently facilitated a mastermind on the Law of Trade-Offs from John Maxwell’s book, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
What a powerful lesson!
As I read and studied, I thought about all the trade-offs I have made in my life, especially over the past 50 years since starting my weight-release journey.
Every single trade-off comes from making a decision - sometimes it’s a good decision, sometimes it isn’t.
Before I started my weight-loss journey, my trade-offs were bad decisions. I was trading my health, for food.
In January 1971, I made a decision to make better choices on my trade-offs.
I decided to trade in the foods that caused me to be overweight so I could lose weight and be healthy.
Was it easy? No!!!
Yet, because I had made the decision, I was ready to commit.
I traded chips for veggies. I traded burgers and sandwiches for tuna… and more tuna… and more tuna. Remember, I said it wasn’t easy!
I traded chips and bread for…hmmm…there was no trade-off. I chose to quit eating them.
Why am I sharing all this? To show you that some trade-offs are a sacrifice. Yet, because I was willing to sacrifice, I released the weight my Sr. year in high school and have kept if off for 50 years!!
But that wasn’t the end of the trade-offs.
Even though I was making good trade-offs surrounding the foods I ate, I was making bad trade-offs emotionally.
You see, I was bullied all those years for being overweight.
I heard bullying words for so many years that I thought that’s who I was – ugly, fat and stupid.
I didn’t know how to let it go until 40 years later when a coach helped me discover what I had done.
I’d been making bad trade-offs every day by believing a lie and living it.
I’d been making trade-offs with the bullying words I continued to say to myself – even though the bullying words from others had stopped when I lost the weight.
Through coaching, I discovered I can make a trade-off from bullying words to kind, loving words. I discovered I did not have to allow what others said to me to define me.
Can you relate to any of this?
Have you been making good or bad trade-offs in your life?
What if you could stop the bad trade-offs?
What if there was a way to make good trade-offs?
There is.
The answer is found in your thoughts and words and you can begin today by reframing how you think and talk.
There are many tools available; however, I discovered I wanted someone to walk beside me to show me where I was tripping myself up with disempowering thoughts and words.
If that’s you, I’d be honored to walk beside you on the journey to good trade-offs.
Contact me and let’s connect.
Let’s talk and see what we can discover together will be the best path for you.
