When you read the name Jesus Christ, who is He to you? As the world celebrates Christmas, the emphasis is on His birth. There are special worship services and plays being conducted in churches. Christmas songs are being sung about His birth. At the same time, many people are offended by even the mention of the words "Merry Christmas." We are told in Matthew 10:22 we would be hated for His name's sake.
I love this time of year. However, as I watch the busyness of the holiday season - food preparation, gifts bought and wrapped, cards sent, messages put on Facebook about the fighting over merchandise in stores, road rage trying to get to the next destination to get everything accomplished on our list; I wonder where Christ is in all this?
When I read the name Jesus Christ, I read of God "come to life" in the form of a baby to grow up to be our Savior. I read how He was willing to come to earth to be persecuted and to die for our sins (Matthew 1:21.) I sometimes wonder if so much emphasis is put on His birth during this time of year, we forget about Him the rest of the year. The saying, "Jesus is the reason for the season" sounds really great; however, have you ever thought about how "Jesus is the reason everyday."
Many will attend a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day worship service to focus on His birth, yet will they also attend a worship service every Sunday to focus on His death, burial and resurrection? This is the real reason. Yes, His birth is important, but it's not the main emphasis in the Bible. The Old Testament has so many scriptures referring to the coming of Christ (Isaiah 19:20 is one of them); however; the main emphasis was on His ministry and death, burial & resurrection (Isaiah 53.)
As you celebrate this season where the emphasis is on the birth of Christ, I want to also encourage you to think about who He really His and what He did for you. I pray you will make Him your reason everyday of the year. I pray you will attend a worship service where every Sunday during the service there is emphasis on His death, burial & resurrection and you partake of The Lord's Supper. I pray you will take the time to read your Bible everyday and fall in love with who Jesus is - your Savior - the only Savior we have.
I also pray that if you would like to know who Jesus Christ really is and you don't know where to look, you will contact me and I'll be happy to share.
May you have a blessed and joy filled Christmas and make Jesus your reason everyday!
